Dive the Great Barrier Reef with Australia's best liveaboard

Did the 7 day Ribbon Reefs/Cod Hole/Osprey Reef trip and was not disappointed. The staff were extremely knowledgeable, friendly and focused on providing the best and safest dive experience possible. There was some inclement weather so we were unable to make it to Osprey Reef but we went further north instead to some equally exciting dive sites. The boat is kept really clean, the dive deck is spacious, and the food was amazing and plentiful.

My husband and I did the 4 day live aboard and it was spectacular. The wildlife in the GBR is unmatched. The Spirit of Freedom ship is large while the crew (Leo and others) are welcoming/great. They are incredibly knowledgeable about the dive sites and sea creatures. The meals on the ship were also quite tasty! If we ever come back to GBR, we trust SOF for our diving adventures!

Our 4 day live aboard trip with SOF was unbelievable! The team is extremely professional and experienced and ensured that we had beautiful dives even though the weather wasn’t ideal. It was great being able to dive with your dive buddy after detailed briefs and not having to strictly follow a guide the whole dive. And the food was out of this world! We highly recommend SOF and would love to return for another trip soon!

Great boat, fun, helpful and knowledgeable crew, everyone friendly and helpful, and the diving was excellent! You’ll never leave the dining table hungry, and you’ll never want to put on your own fins again.

My wife and I did a 3-day diving trip at the Great Barrier Reef and it was a trip of a lifetime. The boat was in great condition, the food was excellent, and the staff was attentive and very helpful. We enjoyed the dive debriefs and nature talks that helped us understand the ecosystems we were visiting. We were nervous initially about not having guided dives, but the reality was staff were in the water and readily available and checked in on us; we felt very safe with their protocols. I loved that we got to dive remote locations that felt exclusive and incredibly full of life. I highly recommend the Spirit of Freedom!

My 3-night liveaboard on Spirit of Freedom was amazing, but it was the crew that made it truly special. Leo (Trip Director) kept everything running smoothly, while Maddie (Master Reef Guide) brought the reef to life with her passion and knowledge. The dive instructors—Anton, Chinami, and Matt— were fantastic, helping me improve my skills and confidence with every dive.

The entire team, from the dive deck to Murray, the chef (who kept us well-fed!), went above and beyond. By the last night, it felt less like a trip and more like the best kind of summer camp. If you’re looking for world-class diving with an incredible crew, this is it!

This trip was absolutely amazing. And you if you love whale encounters, the Dwarf Minke Whale should be at the top of your list. The crew was stellar. Understand, they do not guide dives like traditional live aboards. There are options to snorkel. Leo was the host and there was a team of crew to help and answer your questions. My favorite thing on this boat was 1st and 2nd breakfast. The chef was amazing. Your dinners are even plated. The boat was quite nice and had plenty of room. Bring a beach towel as they do not have them! I would recommend time in Cairns as well. Do not book your flight too early on your last day if doing the 7 day cruise. But you can fly the day they arrive as they get in at around 0630. Cheers to those who try this diving boat!

It has been my first liveaboard and I enjoyed it so much. The food was amazing, the boat was so cozy and the crew was so helpful and fun. Wonderful experience that I would do again.
